Every DnD Class Explained for Dog Owners
Dungeons & Dragons has been around since 1974. If you've never played it, the class names might sound like gibberish — Paladin, Druid, Cleric. What do any of these mean?
Here's a plain-English breakdown of all 8 classes available on Dungeons & Doggos, explained in terms that make sense if you've spent more time with dogs than with dice.
What Is a DnD Class?
In Dungeons & Dragons, a "class" is your character's archetype — their role, their skills, and their approach to the world. It determines what they wear, what weapons they carry, and how they solve problems.
Some classes hit things. Some cast spells. Some sneak around. Some heal. Most dogs fall naturally into one of these archetypes once you know what to look for.
The 8 Classes
Wizard
What they are: Scholars who channel magic through study and intellect. They carry spellbooks, wield staffs, and solve problems with knowledge.
The dog version: The dog who is too smart for their own good. Figures things out. Tests limits. Watches everything with unsettling focus. Probably training you without you realizing it.
Paladin
What they are: Holy warriors bound by an oath of protection and justice. They wear heavy armor, wield divine weapons, and are defined by their loyalty.
The dog version: The devoted, reliable dog. Always at your side. Greets you at the door every single time. Would absolutely lay down their life for you. Pure good energy.
Barbarian
What they are: Warriors powered by raw rage and instinct. No armor, no strategy — just overwhelming force and the will to keep going.
The dog version: The dog who is always at maximum energy. Zooms for no reason. Destroys things. Loves everything at full volume. Cannot be contained.
Ranger
What they are: Wilderness experts who are equally skilled with a bow and at tracking through terrain. Self-sufficient, observant, patient.
The dog version: The calm, independent dog. Content on their own. Notices things before you do. Has a spot they always return to. Perfectly happy watching the world from a distance.
Rogue
What they are: Specialists in stealth, precision, and getting in and out without being seen. They strike fast, move quietly, and know things they shouldn't.
The dog version: The dog who appears from nowhere. Steals food without a sound. Is suspiciously well-behaved in public and saves the chaos for private. Has several hiding spots you've never found.
Cleric
What they are: Devoted healers and protectors, drawing power from their faith. They support the group, sense what others need, and keep everyone together.
The dog version: The emotionally attuned dog. Knows when you're sad before you do. Gentle with everyone. The peacemaker when play gets too rough. Just... makes things better.
Druid
What they are: Nature's guardians who draw magic from the living world around them. Deeply intuitive, connected to cycles and instincts older than civilization.
The dog version: The dog who comes alive outside. Sniffs every blade of grass. Seems ancient and wise in a way you can't explain. Follows instincts you can't see or understand. Most content in nature.
Bard
What they are: Performers and storytellers who use music and charm to influence the world around them. The social glue of every group.
The dog version: The magnetic dog that every stranger wants to pet. Performs for attention and is very good at it. Changes the energy of every room they enter. Beloved by all.
